An enquiry came in for twenty units. We quoted, and heard nothing for a month. Then, on a Friday: one unit, needed in Kyiv by Tuesday. We had the material and we priced the weekend. The customer agreed.

How it was made

  1. The cube is built as two halves. Each half was cut complete in a single setup, so every feature on it shares one datum and nothing depends on repositioning accuracy.
  2. The halves were then joined and the remaining four faces machined as one body. The outer form is true across the joint because it was cut after assembly, not before — the seam cannot show as a step.
  3. Polished and shipped.

What happened next

A month later the customer sent us video from Cape Canaveral: a launch carrying a satellite built by a Kyiv university. Small, and very cubic.
